Abstract

This study aims to analyze the gender equality policies adopted by the French government under the leadership of Emmanuel Macron during the 2019–2023 period. The research focuses on three key sectors namely politics, social affairs, and the economy. The conceptual framework employed is feminist public policy, rooted in feminist legal theory. This perspective views public policy as a socio-political construct that is not inherently neutral and may reproduce gender inequalities if not critically examined. Therefore, it emphasizes the importance of structural transformation, active participation of women in all stages of policymaking, and the use of gender-disaggregated data. Using a descriptive method and a qualitative approach, this study finds that significant progress was made in mainstreaming gender equality into French public policy during the research period. The government demonstrated its commitment through the implementation of various policies that enhanced women’s representation in political institutions, expanded equitable access to education and healthcare services, and promoted social policies aimed at fostering a more balanced distribution of responsibilities within families. In the economic sector, policies focused on increasing women’s participation and empowerment through inclusive incentives and regulatory measures. These findings indicate that gender equality has become an integral part of the national policy agenda. Nevertheless, structural challenges such as cultural resistance, regional disparities, and institutional constraints remain. Continuous evaluation and cross-sectoral collaboration are essential to ensure the long-term effectiveness and sustainability of gender equality policies in the future.
