Abstract

Hardjianto, Muhammad Hanif (2025). Environmental Ethics in the Novel Sumur Minyak Airmata by Winendra Gunawan. Thesis. Indonesian Language Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, University of Muhammadiyah Malang. Advisor: Arif Setiawan, M.Pd.
This study discusses the values of environmental ethics depicted in the novel Sumur Minyak Airmata by Winendra Gunawan. The purpose of this study is to describe the form of the principle of responsibility and the principle of justice in relation to violations of environmental ethics depicted through the characters and events in the novel. This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive analytical approach. Data collection techniques are carried out through literature studies, reading, taking notes, and marking the novel text as the main data source.
The results of the study show that this novel reflects the principle of responsibility through the moral awareness of its characters towards nature, the attitude of not destroying (no harm), and cosmic solidarity between humans and nature. Meanwhile, the principle of justice is presented through the issues of ecological justice and intergenerational justice, which highlight the rights of all living things and the importance of maintaining environmental sustainability for future generations. This novel also presents the local wisdom of the Dayak people as part of environmental conservation efforts. Thus, this literary work not only presents a fictional story, but also becomes a medium for social criticism and reflection on the ecological crisis that is occurring in society.
