Abstract

Health communication involves conveying health messages and plays a vital role for healthcare professionals in promoting community well-being. The World Health Organization's "five-star doctor" concept emphasizes that physicians should embody five key aspects: Caregiver, Decision Maker, Communicator, Community Leader, and Manager, with communication being the most critical element. This study employs a quantitative, correlational approach through field surveys conducted with doctors at West Nusa Tenggara Provincial Hospital to examine how interpersonal communication (variable X) influences patient satisfaction (variable Y). Data was collected using Likert-scale questionnaires administered to 98 dental clinic patients, capturing demographic details including gender, age, occupation, education level, and visit frequency. The research reveals that the five dimensions of doctor-patient communication (Respect, Empathy, Audibility, Clarity, and Humility) significantly impact patient satisfaction both individually and collectively. Furthermore, these communication dimensions demonstrate comprehensive influence on patient satisfaction when measured against the service quality dimensions of Tangibility, Reliability, Responsiveness, Assurance, and Empathy.
