Abstract
Efforts to improve the quality of education are one of the focuses in Indonesia's education development today. The teacher is the central point of improving the quality of education that relies on the teaching and learning process. In the learning process in the classroom there are still many teachers who use conventional methods so that students tend to be bored, therefore it is necessary to renew the learning paradigm, including the learning process. The SQ3R method is a method of understanding text actively with survey, question, read, recite, and review. This method provides an opportunity for students to learn the text actively, efficiently and make it easier for students to find the main idea of the concept of matter. The SQ3R method is also used in SMP Negeri 3 Malang, because that is why this research was carried out with the title of Survey Method, Question, Read, Recite, Review (SQ3R) on PAI Learning for Grade VII Students of SMPN 3 Malang.
This study is intended to find out the reason why SMP Negeri 3 Malang uses the SQ3R method in learning PAI and how to apply the SQ3R method in the school of SMP Negeri 3 Malang in the seventh grade PAI learning.
This study uses a qualitative approach with the type of case study research. Data collection was obtained through observation, interview, and documentation techniques. The informants in this study were PAI teachers and students of Malang 3 Public Middle School while the data analysis that the researchers used refers to Robert K Yin data analysis techniques namely match patterning, explanation making, and time series analysis.
The results of the analysis show that the reason for choosing the SQ3R method in the recitation of PAI class VII in SMP Negeri 3 Malang is because the method has a positive impact on learning and provides many benefits to students such as making students motivated, making students interested in teaching and learning, and increasing students' understanding of the material through survey, question, read, recite, the review contained in the learning steps of the SQ3R method is systematically arranged.
