Abstract
Background: Hypertension diet is a diet that reduces sodium (salt), calories, cholesterol, and fat consumption. The diet focuses on consuming fruits and vegetables, as well as high-quality protein sources such as chicken, fish, and eggs, and as supplemented with vitamins and minerals, and consuming high-fiber foods. Objective: To determine the description of dietary patterns in the elderly with hypertension. Method: This study uses a qualitative research design with a case study approach. Data collection in this study, namely interviews and observations, and documentation involving 3 eklerly participants with hypertension. The method used in this study is the analysis domain aimed at obtaining a general and relatively comprehensive picture of what is included in the focus of the study. Results: From this study, three themes were obtained: 1) The frequency and amount of the elderly diet with hypertension average 2-3 times a day with 1-3 servings 2) The elderly on average consume a balanced diet such as reducing coconut milk and consuming more vegetables and fruits 3) On average, the elderly with hypertension still consume high salt, there is a difference in participants P3 and 13, namely replacing the use of salt with Himalayan salt with an amount of half a teaspoon each time they cook. Discussion: From the results of the study, it can be concluded that it is important to know whether the elderly comply with and carry out a hypertension diet that aims to control and control high blood pressure in the elderly to minimize further complications
