Abstract

This study explores the production process of the short film Cash or Duel, highlighting the dynamics of collaborative work and various challenges encountered at each stage of production. During pre-production, the team conducted preparations such as budgeting, casting, and location permits. The main challenge finding suitable talent was resolved through an open casting call and intensive communication.

In the production phase, obstacles such as weather and technical issues were managed through flexibility and swift decision-making by the team, particularly the producer and director. This reflects the application of contingency theory, which emphasizes the importance of adapting management strategies to real-time situations. Meanwhile, the post-production phase faced challenges in editing to maintain visual continuity aligned with the director’s vision, which was addressed through effective coordination and communication.

Overall, the success of this production demonstrates the crucial role of the producer in overseeing all aspects of the filmmaking process. The implementation of Henri Fayol’s classical management theory especially the functions of coordination and control alongside the adaptability of contingency theory, served as the foundation for achieving efficiency and professionalism in film production. Teamwork, communication, and well-planned strategies were the key factors in completing this project.
