Abstract

Background: Sexual violence has a far-reaching impact, not only on th evictim but alsi on the families who care for and support their recovery process. Families face significant emotional, psychological, and social challenges, such as feelings of guilt, social stigma, and changes in family structure and function. These complexities require in-depthunderstanding so that support provided to victims can be more effective and sustainable. Objectives: This study aimed to explore the dynamics and challenges families face in caring for and recovering members who have experienced the trauma of sexual violence. The research also sought to identify effective strategies and interventions in supporting families. Methods: The study used a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and participant observation, which were analyzed using thematic analysis method. Data validity was maintained through triangulation, member check, and audit trail. Results: The results showed that families experienced significant changes in communication patterns, role division, and interpersonal relationships. The main challenges included emotional distress, limited social support, and stigma that worsened family conditions. Consistent emotional support, open communication, and involvement of professional services were shown to increase the family's capacity to support victims. Conclusion: Family dynamics in caring for victims of sexual violence involve multidimensional challenges that require comprehensive support. Family-based interventions such as family therapy, trauma education, and social support programs need to be improved to strengthen the family's role in the recovery process.
