Abstract
Background: The high prevalence of breast cancer in Indonesia highlights the importance of social support in improving the quality of life for mothers with breast cancer. The limited research exploring the in-depth aspects of social support remains a significant issue. Objective: To analyze the impact of social support on mothers with breast cancer, focusing on physical, emotional, and functional aspects to enhance their quality of life. Study Focus: To identify the dynamics of social support from family, partners, and friends and evaluate its effectiveness in helping mothers with breast cancer cope with stress and anxiety. Methods: The study employed a qualitative case study approach involving three subjects: Mr. N (P1), Mrs. R (P2), and Mrs. W (P3). Data validation was conducted using source triangulation through face-to-face semi-structured interviews. Data collection techniques included interviews, observation, and documentation. Results: Data analysis, validated by the participants, identified five themes: 1) Emotional Support, 2) Esteem Support, 3) Instrumental Support, 4) Informational Support, and 5) Companionship Support. Conclusion: All forms of social support play a vital role in the healing process and the quality of life of patients. Support provided by family and friends significantly reduces anxiety, enhances self-confidence, and assists breast cancer patients in undergoing treatment and performing daily activities. Therefore, families are encouraged to continuously provide emotional, esteem, instrumental, informational, and companionship support to aid the patients’ recovery process.
