Abstract
Backgound: The role of father in the family is often considered one of the primary foundations in shiping a child’s personality, emotional stability, and physically or emotionally, has become an increasingly common phenomenon due to various factor such as divorse, death, or neglect of familial responsibilities. Objective: This study aims to explore the subjective experiences of children growing up without a father and to identify the short-term and long-term impacts on their psychological, emotional, and social well-baing. Methods: This research employed a qualitative approach using a case study method. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews with four participants who experienced the absence of a father’s role. Interviews were conducted in a comfortable setting and analyzed thematically. Results: The findings reveal six main themes: (1) Lack of emotional support and poor communication from fathers; (2) Psychological impact, including difficulties in emotional regulation, low self-confidence, and challenges in building social relationships; (3) Decreased motivation and academic performance; (4) Financial burdens within families due to the absence of the father’s economic role; (5) Barriers to repairing father-child relationships due to minimal fatherly responsiveness; and (6) Alternative support from mother or close relatives as substitutes for the father’s role. Conclusion: The absence of a father’s role significantly effects the psychological, social, and academic well-being of adolescents. Low emotional support leads to feelings of loneliness, decreased leaning motivation, and difficulties in building social relationships. Children tend to seek substitute figures as sources of emotional support and motivation.
