Abstract

Background : Baby Blues Sydrome, or postpartum blues, is often overlooked in Indonesia, indicating emotional changes in mothers after giving birth. Symptoms, such as sadness and mild depression, appear on day 3-2 weeks after giving birth. Conditions, roles and family support are very important in overcoming baby blues in postpartum mothers. Purpose : This study aims to determine the role and support of the family in overcoming baby blues in postpartum mothers. Method : Involving 4 mothers who experience baby blues and 4 families with purposive sampling, data were collected through semi-structured interviews that were recorded, with validity tests using triangulation. Results : Analysis of data obtained by researchers from interview results and validated by participants formulated 5 themes, namely 1) Mother's Understanding of Baby Blues, 2) Experiences During the Postpartum Period, 3) Triggers for the Emergence of Emotions, 4) Support During Baby Blues, 5) The Role of the Family During Baby Blues. Conclusion : Emotional, social, practical support provided by the family, especially partners, is very influential in overcoming baby blues symptoms. In addition, the involvement of other family members in providing attention, listening, and helping with household chores, also accelerates the mother's recovery. The role of the family in providing support, especially the husband and closest family members, is very important in helping mothers overcome baby blues and improve the quality of life after giving birth. The role of the family is crucial in providing the support needed to overcome baby blues, which is especially for the mental health of mothers after giving birth.
