Abstract
Mathematical communication skills are one of the important skills that students need to have in learning mathematics. Mathematical communication skills are an important thing that students must have in expressing what they understand both verbally and in writing. This study aims to analyze students' mathematical communication skills in terms of learning styles in the subject of counting numbers at SDN Kauman 2 Kota Malang.
This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with first-grade elementary school students as subjects. Data collection techniques were conducted through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis in this study involved data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was checked using triangulation techniques.
The results of the study indicate that in the drawing indicator, students with visual learning styles such as KPN, MRR, MSF, and NA were able to convey ideas quite well. Subject NA also showed a dominance of auditory learning style and was able to understand verbal explanations well. In the writing indicator, students with read/write learning styles showed stronger understanding. Meanwhile, students with kinesthetic learning styles, such as MSF, appeared active and enthusiastic during learning. In the mathematical expression indicator, many students were still unable to fully convert problems into mathematical models. Students with VAR learning styles demonstrated a more comprehensive understanding because they could utilize various methods in receiving and processing information.
