Abstract
Mathematics learning in elementary school needs to equip students with logical, analytical, systematic, critical, and creative thinking skills, as well as the ability to work together. To support this in the learning process, various facilities and infrastructure are used, one of which is learning media. Learning media is an integrated part of the overall learning system and process, meaning that learning media determines learning activities and is a very important element in learning. In a media in general, there are symbols or symbols. Regarding symbols, terms and symbols, the researcher pays attention to semiotic signs to find out how effectively the learning media is used in learning.
This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive type. This study aims to describe semiotics on the medium of measurement ladders in mathematics learning in grade IV elementary school mathematics. The research was carried out at SDN Sisir 03 Batu City. This study uses data collection methods in the form of observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis in this study is through data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawn. Checking the validity of the data using triangulation techniques.
The results of the study show that the measurement ladder media encourages students to be more motivated, active in discussions, and create an interactive and interesting learning environment. Through this medium, students not only understand the concept of measurement, but also learn to use symbols for mathematical communication. The semiotic approach used includes six objects, namely language, problem situations, concepts, propositions, procedures, and arguments. The language in this media is conveyed through teacher instructions and visual guides that are simple, colorful, and flexible. Problem situations are designed
to be challenging, while the concepts studied include numbers, measurements, and shapes of flat and spatial buildings. Propositions contain proven mathematical statements, procedures explain the steps of completion, and arguments appear in the teacher's explanation. Thus, the use of semiotic-based Measurement Ladder media not only strengthens the understanding of the material, but also develops students' critical and analytical thinking skills. Suggestions for future researchers, to research the effectiveness of the use of Measurement Ladder media by exploring other materials in mathematics learning. By increasing the knowledge of semiotic objects more deeply.
