Abstract
Mathematics is one of the most important subjects to learn because it has a very important role. Because of its very important role, mathematical concepts must be taught to students starting from the most basic level. One of the concepts in mathematics is the subtraction operation. However, in reality, the understanding of subtraction concepts has not been well understood by students at SDN Kenduruan II, especially in grade II students. For this reason, media is needed to help students understand the concept of subtraction at the basic level.
This study uses development research with the ADDIE research model. This research was conducted in class II of SDN Kenduruan II, Sukorejo District, Pasuruan Regency, East Java in the 2024/2025 academic year. The data source for this study was class II, consisting of 13 students. This research was conducted by developing a product, namely a counting box media. This media was created with the aim of making it easier for students to perform arithmetic operations on subtracting whole numbers. The counting box media was also created with an attractive design to trigger students' enthusiasm in the learning process.
The results of the study showed (I) The counting box media was proven to be effective in the process of learning mathematics on the material of subtraction of whole numbers. This was confirmed by the results of the validation test of material and media experts by validators who are experts in the field of mathematics learning and experts in the field of learning media. The results of the validation test of material experts obtained a validity score of 97.92% and the validation test of media experts obtained a score of 92.31%. (II) The use of counting box media in learning mathematics on the material of subtraction of arithmetic operations was able to make it easier for students to carry out arithmetic operations on subtraction of whole numbers in the learning process. This was shown by the results of the evaluation that had been carried out by students with an average percentage value of 89.23%. (III) The counting box media was able to attract students' interest in learning. This was proven by the responses of students and teachers to the counting box media. The results of the students' responses reached 95.83% and the results of the teachers' responses reached 93.59%. The results of this study indicate that the counting box media is good for use in class II, especially in learning mathematics on the material of arithmetic operations on subtracting whole numbers. This Counting Box media is recommended for use as an alternative for learning mathematics for subtraction arithmetic operations and can be further developed for further research.
