Abstract
This study aims to analyze the causes of clashes between pencak silat schools in Bandung District, Tulungagung Regency. The research employs a qualitative approach using observation, interviews, and documentation methods. The research subjects consist of pencak silat members, the police, and local community members. Data analysis is based on Ralf Dahrendorf's conflict theory, particularly the concepts of pseudo identity and interest identity. The findings indicate that the conflicts are driven not only by rational interests but also by emotional attachment and group fanaticism. Pseudo identity fosters strong loyalty to the silat school, which is reflected in aggressive reactions to symbolic violations, the use of attributes by outsiders, and the presence of monuments perceived as symbols of territorial dominance. Meanwhile, interest identity is reflected in power and resource struggles, such as disputes over training facilities, the establishment of new branches without coordination, and competition in member recruitment. Silat schools also pursue economic and social interests, including the need for operational funding and legal recognition. Convoys, monument installations, and acts of solidarity represent expressions of group existence. The types of conflict that arise include street fights between members, stone-throwing during convoys, monument vandalism, physical assaults, and confrontations at newly established training locations as acts of intimidation. These conflicts are both latent and manifest, and they persist due to the absence of structural conflict resolution mechanisms.
