Abstract

Mathematics learning in the operation material of calculation, addition and subtraction in grade I of elementary school still faces obstacles. The learning media used is still limited to the objects around, so it is less effective in helping students understand the material thoroughly. Therefore, a pocket board media was developed that is concrete, interactive, and in accordance with the thinking stage of students, in order to facilitate the understanding of the concept of counting operations in a more interesting and fun way.
This research uses the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE development model which includes the stages of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. The research instruments consisted of observation guidelines, interview guidelines, validation questionnaires, and documentation. The data was analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively to determine the feasibility and effectiveness of the developed media.
The validation results showed that the media received an assessment of 93.75% from material experts and 85.71% from media experts, indicating that the media is very feasible to use. The response of students to this media was 96.6%, and the teacher assessed the pocket board media as practical and in accordance with the development of the students. This media has the advantage of combining abstract and concrete concepts and is equipped with a QR code to access teaching materials and usage guides. The disadvantages are the lack of card sizes and the lack of miniatures that support individual and group use. Pocket board media is declared feasible and interesting to be used in learning elementary grade I calculation operations.
