Abstract
Background: Butterfly pea flower extract (Clitoria ternatea L.) fenol, flavonoid,
and alkaloid compounds. This content is an antibacterial and antifungal compound.
The development of a topical formulation for bath soap, which is more often used
as an alternative body cleanser because it is widely known to the public, is more
practical and economical. And the foam produced is softer on the body.
Objective: This study aims to determine the effect of different levels of butterfly
pea flower extract (Clitoria ternatea L.) on Staphylococcus aureus bacteria in liquid
soap preparations.
Method: An antibacterial test of liquid soap with butterfly pea flower extract with
varying levels of 5%, 10%, and 15% against the growth of Staphylococcus aureus
bacteria was carried out in vitro using the good method.
Results and Conclusions: The study results show that increasing butterfly pea
extract levels affects the antibacterial activity of liquid bath soap preparations. The
average diameter of the inhibition zone at F0, F1, F2, and F3 is 6.67 mm, 10.44
mm, 11.08 mm, and 12.45 mm. For the positive control, the average inhibition zone
was 14.97 mm. It can be concluded that butterfly pea flower extract (Clitoria
ternatea L.) has antibacterial potential against Staphylococcus aureus at
concentrations of 5%, 10% and 15% indicating the existence of an inhibition zone
against S. aureus bacteria.
