Abstract
Students often use proxy services to help complete academic assignments. There are several reasons behind this behavior, such as excessive academic workload, lack of understanding of the material, inability to complete tasks, limited time, and others. This act represents a pragmatic step taken by students that contradicts academic ethics. This study aims to explore the phenomenon of intellectual banality among university students. It employs a qualitative approach with a case study research type. The subjects of this research were determined using snowball sampling and analyzed through the lens of intellectual banality. The findings of this study reveal that students' pragmatic actions in using proxy services clearly violate academic ethics, which serve as a guideline for academic conduct. This condition indicates that students no longer feel guilty or even see it as normal when using such services. Students no longer perceive academic dishonesty as morally wrong, but rather as a pragmatic strategy to survive in a competitive educational system. They no longer question the long-term consequences that may affect personal development, focusing instead solely on instant results through more effective and efficient means.
