Abstract

Based on initial observations at SMP Al Islamiyah Putat Tanggulangin, there are still several challenges in students' understanding and skills in reading exposition texts, such as the lack of students' ability to identify the structure of the text, choose the right words, and formulate arguments logically and coherently.
Factors that affect students' low ability to understand exposition texts can come from various aspects, including the lack of interesting media or learning resources and the lack of teacher skills in applying interactive learning methods. The reason why grade VIII students of Al-Islamiyah Putat Tanggulangin Junior High School were made the subject of research is because the researcher found a decrease in reading ability among students in grades VIII-D. This decline is suspected to be closely related to the reduced willingness of students to cooperate in the learning process. The purpose of this study is to improve the comprehension skills of grade VIII students of Al-Islamiyah Putat Junior High School through the Student Team Learning (STL) method.
This research is a quantitative research. In this study, the researcher used an experimental approach. The goal of the experimental research approach is to determine the impact of the intervention in a controlled setting. The design of this study used One Group Pretest-Postest.
Based on the results of the study on the influence of the Student Team Learning (STL) method on the proficiency of understanding exposition texts for grade VIII students of Al-Islamiyah Putat Tanggulangin Junior High School, it has a significant influence on improving the proficiency of understanding students' exposition texts. This is evidenced by the results of statistical tests that show a significance value of less than 0.05. The results of Cohen's d analysis of 1.1 showed that the Student Team Learning (STL) method had a great effect on students' reading comprehension skills. Based on the SPSS output above, the significance value of 2-tailed is less than 0.05, so it can be concluded that there is a significant difference between the pre-test and the post-test.
Based on the SPSS output, it can be concluded that there is a significant difference between pre-test and post-test. So it can be concluded that there are differences in improving the comprehension of exposition texts for grade VIII students of Al-Islamiyah Putat Tanggulangin Junior High School before and after the application of the Student Team Learning (STL) method.
