Abstract

Introduction: Chemotherapy is a treatment that utilizes anticancer drugs that can cause various side effects. The most common side effects of chemotherapy are nausea and vomiting. One method to reduce the side effects of nausea due to chemotherapy is to carry out complementary therapy such as giving ginger water to drink. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions of giving ginger drinks in reducing nausea in lung cancer patients with chemotherapy.
Methods: This study used a case study design on a 46-year-old patient, Mr. A, with Lung Cancer who was treated in the Semeru room of Dr. Saiful Anwar Hospital. Ginger water therapy was carried out for three consecutive days, twice a day in the morning and evening. The Indonesian Nursing Outcome Standard (SLKI) was used to measure the level of nausea before and after the intervention.
Results: Based on the nursing outcome standards for nausea complaints, the results of this study showed a change from the first to the third day. On the first and second days, the nausea complaints felt by the patient before the ginger water therapy were at a score of 2 (quite increased) and 3 (moderate), while on the third day there was a decrease in nausea complaints with a score of 5 (decreased).

Conclusion: Ginger therapy can be given to reduce nausea in lung cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.
