Abstract
This study examines the challenges of teaching internship students in the 6th semester of the English Language Education study program at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang. The fact that student interns still have difficulties in applying basic skills in teaching English to students. Thus, the research aims to analyze the student interns’ challenges in teaching English and to explain their ways of solving the problems. This research design uses a descriptive qualitative method to analyze students ‘experiences during teaching and observe the activities in the classroom. The instruments used to get the data are observation and interview with 2 student interns. The guidelines used for the study were interview guides, cameras, and recorders to provide clear evidence. The findings showed that the students interns lacked in teaching preparation so they became nervous and less focused, making the classroom atmosphere unconducive. However, after teaching several times, the interns adapted to the classroom environment and were able to make the classroom atmosphere livelier in teaching and learning.
