Abstract

the milking method is one of the important factors that affect milk production and quality, including its fat content. This study aims to compare the effectiveness of manual and machine milking methods on production volume and percentage of milk fat in dairy cows. The study was conducted on 79 FH (Friesian Holstein) cows, with data collection for 8 weeks. The results showed that the machine milking method produced higher milk production than manual milking, with an average production
of 18.95 liters per day in the machine method and 19.12 liters per day in the manual12 method. In addition, machine milking tends to maintain a more consistent percentage of milk fat than manual milking, with an average fat percentage of 3.84% for machine and 3.9% for manual. This is likely due to the more efficient and hygienic milking process in the machine method. However, manual milking shows an advantage in certain situations, especially for cows that have sensitive nipples or on a small farm scale. These findings suggest that the milking method chosen needs to be adjusted to the scale of production and the characteristics of the dairy cows.
