Abstract
This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the drill method in improving descriptive writing skills among fourth-grade students at SDN Tegalgondo, Malang Regency. A quantitative approach was employed using a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. All students in the population were included as the sample to ensure comprehensive coverage. Data were collected through written tests, observations, and documentation. Descriptive and inferential statistical analyses were used to measure significant changes before and after the intervention.
The research population consisted of all 13 fourth-grade students at SDN Tegalgondo, selected using a total sampling technique. The instruments used included written tests, participatory observation, and learning documentation. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics to identify trends and inferential statistics, such as the Wilcoxon test or t-test, to determine the significance of the changes resulting from the application of the drill method.
The results showed a significant improvement in students' descriptive writing skills following the implementation of the drill method. The percentage of students in the high category increased from 5% to 23.08%, the medium category rose from 45% to 61.54%, and the low category decreased drastically from 45% to 15.38%. These findings indicate that the drill method is effective in enhancing students' writing abilities and contributes positively to the overall quality of learning outcomes at the elementary school level.
