Abstract

Curriculum change is an unavoidable aspect of Indonesia’s education system, particularly in responding to contemporary challenges and the impact of the post-pandemic crisis. The Merdeka Curriculum emerged as a strategic effort by the government to improve the quality of education by providing schools and teachers with greater autonomy in designing learning experiences that meet the diverse needs of students. However, its implementation in the field still faces various challenges, especially in terms of teacher readiness and resource availability. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in grades V and VI at SDN Sukoreno III Prigen, identify supporting and inhibiting factors, and evaluate its effectiveness in enhancing the quality of learning.

This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Observations were conducted to directly observe the learning process and interactions carried out in the classroom. In-depth interviews were conducted with students, principals, and teachers to obtain their perspectives on the implementation of the independent curriculum. Data analysis was conducted using a thematic approach, where the information that had been collected was categorized into themes related to the focus of the research.

The findings indicate that while the school has made efforts in planning, implementing, and evaluating learning based on the Merdeka Curriculum, challenges remain, particularly in teachers' understanding of learning modules, goal formulation, and the use of formative assessment. Supporting factors include school policy and teachers’ enthusiasm to adapt, while inhibiting factors involve the lack of technical training and limited infrastructure. Overall, the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum at this school is still in the developmental stage and requires systematic support from various stakeholders to optimize its effectiveness.
