Abstract

Background: Self-medication is an act of self-treatment by individuals for minor illnesses they suffer from on their own initiative and responsibility through over the-counter drugs and without a doctor's prescription. Individual self-medication behavior, including for influenza, is often influenced by their level of knowledge.
Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between knowledge level and self-medication behavior of influenza drugs in non-health students at University of Muhammadiyah Malang.
Method: This study design is Cross-Sectional. The population of the study was all active non-health undergraduate students at UMM totaling 4250 people (from 31 study programs). The sample of the study was part of the active non-health undergraduate students at UMM totaling 100 people determined by purposive sampling. The research instrument used a questionnaire on the level of knowledge
and a questionnaire on the behavior of self-medication of influenza drugs. The data collected were analyzed using Fisher's Exact.
Results and Conclusions: The most knowledge level of self-medication of influenza drugs among respondents is good category, as many as 53% of respondents and the most self-medication behavior of influenza drugs among respondents is positive category, as many as 98%. Furthermore, there is a significant relationship between knowledge level of influenza drugs and self
medication behavior of influenza drugs of respondents (p-value = 0.013). Knowledge is a very important domain in shaping a person's daily behavior, including the behavior of self-medication of influenza drugs.
