The problem underlying this research is how Sapardi Djoko Damono builds sensory experiences in the novel Segi Tiga through the use of imagery, especially visual, auditory and movement imagery. This novel is known to have a poetic language style and is rich in imagery, so it is interesting to study how the lexical diction used can create a strong imagery effect. The branch of the realm of stylistics is the form of imagery and lexical diction. Therefore, the reason for this research aims to: (1) describe the form of imagery in the novel Segi Tiga by Sapardi Djoko Damono, and (2) describe the lexical diction that creates imagery in the novel Segi Tiga by Sapardi Djoko Damono..
This study uses a qualitative descriptive method using a stylistic. The source of the data in this study is the novel Segi Tiga by Sapardi Djoko Damono which reveals the forms of images contained and the lexical diction that exists in these images. Data collection was carried out by reading data sources in the form of novels, identifying them, then sorting the data into research instruments. Data collection was obtained by reading the entire contents of the story carefully and thoroughly. The source of the research was carried out by analyzing and making notes on the forms of the images contained and the lexical diction in these images. Data analysis techniques are carried out by (1) data collection, (2) data reduction, (3) data presentation, (4) conclusions.
Based on the results of the analysis, it can be concluded: (1) forms of imagery in the novel (visual imagery, auditive imagery, and motion imagery; (2) lexical diction in imagery in the novel (synonyms, antonyms, and hyponyms). Through the combination of imagery and the choice of measured diction, Segi Tiga succeeds in creating an aesthetic atmosphere and conveying deep messages about human conflict, relationships and feelings.
