Abstract

Backgorund: Cirrhosis is a chronic disease characterized by the replacement of normal liver tissue with widespread fibrosis, which distrupts the structure and function of the liver, causing complications. Complications that can arise include portal hypertension, ascites, esophageal varices, SBP and hepatic encephalopathy. The clinical symptomps of portal hypertension include hematemesis melena, which is given as therapy with tranexamic acid and vitamin K. Tranexamic acid is antifbrinolytic agent that prevents excessive bleeding by helping blood clot.
Objective: To determine the pattern of use of tranexamic acid which includes frequency, dose, route and duration of administration in relation to clinical data and laboratory data for inpatiens at the Muhammadiyah University Hospital in Malang with a diagnosis of cirrhosis with hematemesis melena.
Method: Observational research with a retrospective data collection method which was analyzed descriptively
Result and Conclusions: In this study it can be seen that the pattern of single therapy was 6 patiens (46%), combination therapy was 7 patients (54%). The most common single use pattern was Tranexamic acid (3 x 500 mg) IV in 4 patients (66%), combination therapy was Tranexamic acid (3 x 500 mg) IV + Vitamin K (3 x 10 mg) IV in 3 patients (43%)
