Abstract
Waste has now been recognized as a global environment issue. Waste that is not handled and managed properly can be a threat to society and the environment. Uncontrolled waste means that waste is not 'managed' properly, making it difficult to estimate the size of the problem or the scale of costs related to its management. The polemic about waste accumulation and its management is also faced by Germany. Statistisches Bundesamt in its report explains that the amount of municipal waste in Germany will reach 646 kilograms in 2021. This amount is significantly above the European Union’s accumulated municipal waste. This situation then made Germany one of the largest waste producer countries in the European region. This situation made the German Government committed to making improvements to their waste management as they make the transition to a circular economy. Through the Closed Substance Cycle and Waste Management policy, the German government is strengthening their efforts to prevent and recover waste. The success of waste management in Germany really boils down to two things; strong government policies and the awareness of its citizens in managing their waste.
