Abstract

Background: Depression is a serious medical condition characterized by various mood-related, physical, and cognitive symptoms. There is a complex relationship between the elderly and the occurrence of depression and hypertension, where depression can contribute to increased blood pressure through prolonged mental stress that triggers physical responses in the body. Aromatherapy can serve as a beneficial complementary approach in managing hypertension for several reasons. It promotes relaxation and reduces depression, which can help lower depression levels important trigger for hypertension.
Methodology: This research design employs a case study method by providing comprehensive nursing care through assessment, data analysis, diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation of non-pharmacological nursing therapy, specifically lavender aromatherapy relaxation.
Results: All three patients showed a positive response to aromatherapy therapy with lavender oil, indicated by a decrease in depression levels and blood pressure. Ny. A's depression level decreased from 17 (mild) to 09 (normal), Ny. S's from 17 (mild) to 07 (normal), and Tn. M's from 15 (mild) to 03 (normal). This therapy is effective in improving overall mental and physical health.
Conclusion: It can be concluded from the above research that aromatherapy nursing interventions, particularly the use of lavender essential oil, are effective in reducing depression levels and blood pressure in hypertensive patients. The research shows that aromatherapy provides significant relaxation effects, reduces anxiety, and improves sleep quality. Although blood pressure reduction varies among individuals, there is a positive trend indicating that aromatherapy can be a useful supplementary method in hypertension management.
