Abstract

ABSTRAK
The 2024 General Election in Indonesia was marked by various dynamics, one of which was the issue of the Right of Inquiry (Hak Angket), which emerged as a response to alleged electoral fraud. This issue became a topic of intense political debate and drew attention from various media outlets, including Metrotvnews.com and TvOnenews.com, both of which demonstrated differing tendencies in framing their coverage. This study aims to analyze how the Right of Inquiry issue was framed by these two media platforms and what factors influenced their news reporting, particularly in shaping public opinion in the post-election period.

This research applies the framing model developed by Zhongdang Pan and Gerald M. Kosicki, which divides framing structure into four elements: syntactic, script, thematic, and rhetorical. Additionally, the study refers to the theory of media content influence levels by Shoemaker and Reese, which highlights how editorial policy, media ownership, political pressure, and economic interests shape news content.

The study employs a qualitative approach using textual analysis methods. Data was collected from two news articles—one from Metrotvnews.com (March 12, 2024) and one from TvOnenews.com (March 8, 2024)—which discussed the Right of Inquiry discourse. Data collection techniques included documentation and textual review, while the analysis focused on the four structural elements of framing in the Pan & Kosicki model, with a comparative lens to identify differences between the two media outlets.

The findings reveal that Metrotvnews.com framed the Right of Inquiry as an important step toward exposing alleged electoral fraud, highlighting support from “50 national figures,” although without clearly identifying them. In contrast, TvOnenews.com emphasized the narrative of rejection through demonstrations by “hundreds of activists” who considered the Right of Inquiry a political maneuver that could trigger instability. These findings confirm that news framing is influenced by media ownership and political interests. Therefore, this study aims to contribute to media and political communication studies and promote media literacy by encouraging the public to critically engage with news content.
