Abstract

The Ferienjob program aims to give international students the opportunity to work in Germany during academic vacation periods. Despite its positive aims, the Ferienjob program carries the risk of labor exploitation. The case of labor exploitation of Indonesian students through the Ferienjob program in Germany is one of the problems that requires the involvement of Interpol. This research aims to explain the efforts made by Interpol in dealing with labor exploitation of Indonesian students through the Ferienjob program in Germany by using the concepts of migrant workers and international organizations. This research uses descriptive qualitative research methods. This research uses primary data sourced from NCB Interpol Indonesia and secondary data from literature studies. The results showed that Interpol made its efforts through NCB Interpol Indonesia with coordination between institutions such as the Indonesian Embassy in Berlin, the Indonesian Consulate General in Frankfurt, the Ministry of Education and Culture, and the Indonesian Student Association in Germany. In addition, it also seeks to prevent perpetrators through the issuance of Red Notice with NCB Interpol Germany and NCB Interpol Italy. Although there are differences in jurisdiction and legal systems between member countries, Interpol as an international organization is not supranational and respects the legal sovereignty of each member state as well as the principle of non-intervention. All decisions are in accordance with the laws of each member state. There is a need for stronger support and diplomatic approach by the state in bilateral agreements between countries.
