Abstract

Mathematics learning is closely related to problem solving, which aims to deepen understanding of mathematical concepts and practice their application in problem solving. Slow learner students have a slower learning speed than regular students, requiring more adaptive learning strategies. The inclusion of gestures in the math learning process can have an impact on the way students view and understand what they are learning.
This research uses a qualitative approach with a case studies type. This study aims to describe the results of gesture analysis of slow learner students in solving math story problems at SD Negeri Tlekung 02 Batu City. The research was conducted at SD Negeri Tlekung 02 Batu City. This study uses data collection methods in the form of observation, written tests, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis in this study through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Checking the validity of the data using triangulation techniques.
The results showed that the combination of written and oral answers in solving math story problems can help students display the four stages of Polya's problem solving more completely. Although gestures can support communication, not all gestures contribute directly to problem solving or understanding of mathematical concepts. Some gestures are just habits or non-verbal responses that are not directly related to cognitive processes. The application of Polya's steps in solving math story problems contributed significantly to the accuracy of students' answers.
