Abstract

Problem solving is the process of thinking and acting methodically by using cognitive abilities, skills, knowledge, creativity, and understanding to find answers to a problem. Adversity quotient is the ability of an individual to handle his or her own challenges when faced with a problem. This study aims to determine the solution of students' mathematics problems based on Adversity Quotient in grade IV students of SDN 1 Landungsari Malang.
This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method, which requires observation of problem-solving problems based on adversity quotient. This research was conducted at SDN 1 Landungsari Malang. In this study, data was obtained through questionnaires, written tests, interviews and documentation. The data analysis in this study goes through three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawn. The validity of the data was checked using triangulation techniques.
The results of this study are three patterns of problem solving based on adversity quotient. The quitters type has ten troubleshooting steps. The campers and climbers both have twelve problem-solving steps but with different sequences. The implication of this study is that teachers can find out the adversity quotient of students so that teachers can choose appropriate strategies and methods of learning, students can create more efficient methods to solve problems and schools can increase the effectiveness of mathematics learning, especially in terms of problem solving.
