Abstract
This study discusses waste management through the 3R Program (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) to improve the economy of Sumbergondo Village, Bumiaji District, Batu City. Based on Law Number 18 of 2008, waste management includes systematic and sustainable reduction and handling. In Sumbergondo Village, the 3R system is implemented through TPS3R (Integrated Waste Management Site), which not only impacts the environment but also contributes to the local economy.
The waste management process includes waste collection, transportation, and sorting. Organic waste is processed into compost, while inorganic waste is reused through the Rejeki Barokah Waste Bank and incinerator technology. Sumbergondo Village’s success in implementing independent waste management has become an outstanding achievement that can serve as an inspiration for other villages. As a result, TPS3R is not only a waste management site but has also been developed into an educational tourism destination for waste management.
The success of waste management at TPS3R Sumbergondo Village is supported by several actors. Formal actors include the Sumbergondo Village Government, BUMDes, the TPS3R Kelompok Swadaya Masyarakat (KSM), and PT United Tractors Tbk, while informal actors consist of the local community. However, there are still challenges such as limited labor, facilities, and funding that need to be addressed. Overall, effective waste management in Sumbergondo Village not only reduces environmental pollution but also promotes the economic well-being of the local community.
