Abstract

This research aims to determine the role of work motivation as a mediation in the effect of competence on the performance of functional employees at the Center For Training and Counseling of Fisheries (BPPP) Banyuwangi. This study is explanatory in nature with a quantitative approach. It utilizes data from questionnaires using total sampling techniques from 70 respondents. The data analysis methods employed include scale range and Partial Least Square (PLS). The results of the scale range indicate that employee performance is categorized as high, competence is categorized as competent, and work motivation is categorized as fulfilled. Meanwhile, the PLS results show that competence has a positive and significant effect on employee performance and work motivation, as well as work motivation having a positive and significant effect on employee performance. Therefore, work motivation plays a positive and significant mediating role in the effect of competence on employee performance.
