Abstract

Background: In 2020, students were affected by the occurrence of COVID-19 (through their
learning using the network (online). The implications of online learning can cause health problems
including eye health and musculoskeletal complaints. Incidents of Musculoskeletal Disorders, one
of which is Myofascial pain syndrome, are pain in the muscles characterized by the presence of
trigger points called trigger points, which cause limited neck movement or limited range of motion
(ROM) in students. To reduce these complaints, a combination of progressive muscle relaxation
and Mckenzie neck exercises can be carried out.
Objective: To determine the effect of a combination of progressive muscle relaxation training and
Mckenzie Neck Exercise on increasing ROM in cases of upper trapezius myofascial pain
syndrome in students.
Research Method: This research uses a pre-experimental design (one group pre and post-test).
The subjects of this research were 15 students from Hulu Sungai Selatan, Malang Region. This
study used a Goniometer to measure the range of motion (ROM) of the neck in students.
Conclusion: There is an effect of the combination of progressive muscle relaxation and Mckenzie
Neck Exercise on increasing ROM in cases of upper trapezius myofascial pain syndrome in
students.
