Abstract
News coverage related to the new capital city, Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN), continues to expand across various issues, sparking widespread controversy among the public, government officials, and the media. Differences in perspectives reflect how media outlets frame an issue based on editorial values, media ownership interests, and their target audience segments. These differences in construction demonstrate the media's significant influence in shaping public opinion. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the Online Media Construction on the Controversy of the Capital City Relocation (IKN) using Robert N. Entman’s framing analysis.
According to Robert Entman, media framing refers to how the media selects and highlights specific aspects of an event or issue, shaping how audiences perceive it. In his theory, Entman argues that framing involves a process of selection and emphasis, directing the audience’s focus to certain dimensions of an event while sidelining others. Framing is not only about what is reported but also how the news is presented to the audience.
The researcher employs a qualitative approach using framing analysis with comparative data presentation. The selected data is analyzed using Robert Entman’s Framing Theory approach.
The findings reveal that Detik.com frames its news coverage with a bias toward the government, from the headline to the content, emphasizing the government’s achievements and success in attracting investors to the IKN project. In contrast, Tempo.co maintains a more independent stance and does not fully align with the government. Tempo.co's focus tends to highlight statements that criticize the government's efforts to develop IKN through investors.
