Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of natural anthelmintics derived from
pineapple crowns and a mixture of papaya peels and seeds on the erythrocyte and
leukocyte counts in Ongole Crossbred (PO) cattle. Natural anthelmintics were
provided as an eco-friendly alternative to synthetic anthelmintics. A total of 9 PO cattle
aged 13–15 months were divided into three treatment groups: a control group without
anthelmintic administration (P0), a group receiving pineapple crowns (P1), and a
group receiving a mixture of papaya peels and seeds (P2). The basal diet consisted of
fresh forage and concentrate as required by the cattle, while natural anthelmintics were
administered at 200 g/head/day during the study period. Data on erythrocyte and
leukocyte counts were measured before treatment and on days 30, 45, and 60 using
standard hematological methods. The results showed that erythrocyte and leukocyte
counts in all treatments remained within normal ranges. The highest erythrocyte count
was observed in the P1 group (7.82), while the lowest was in the P0 group (6.68). The
highest leukocyte count was observed in the P2 group (10.2), while the lowest was in
the P1 group (7.83). This study demonstrated that natural anthelmintics influenced
erythrocyte and leukocyte counts in PO cattle.
