Abstract
The smoking phenomenon has become a global health issue that continues to attract attention to this day. This situation raises concerns, as it has become widespread across various groups, including female college students, potentially affecting productivity, daily quality of life, and posing long-term health risks. This study aims to examine the simultaneous influence of stress and conformity on self-control among female smokers. The approach used is quantitative correlational with accidental sampling, chosen because the subjects accessed are female smokers who were met by chance and were willing to participate, thus meeting the research criteria. The criteria for respondents in this study are female students aged 18–25, active smokers (both electronic and non-electronic cigarettes), and smoke at least three times a month on different days. Data were collected through an online questionnaire distributed to 107 active female smokers. The measurement tools used include the Brief Self Control Scale (BSCS) for self-control, the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10) for stress, and the conformity scale developed by Goncalves and adapted by Yunus (2022). Data analysis was performed using SPSS with multiple linear regression. The results indicate a significant effect of stress and conformity on self-control in female smokers, with a correlation of r = 0.350; p = 0.0001 < 0.05. This shows that these two independent variables together influence one-third of the respondents' self-control ability.
