Abstract

This study is entitled "Analysis of Parental Perspectives on Literacy Readiness in the Early Childhood Education to Primary School Transition Program" which aims to explore parents' views on children's literacy readiness during the transition from Early Childhood Education to Primary School. Children's literacy readiness is one of the important aspects that must be considered to support the child's adaptation process in entering formal education. This study was conducted at TK ‘Aisyiyah Bustanul Athfal 16 Malang using a qualitative approach. The data collection technique was carried out through Focus Group Discussion (FGD) involving parents of grade B kindergarten students who were in the transition period to primary school. This group discussion aimed to understand the parents' perspectives on literacy aspects, challenges faced, and efforts that had been made to prepare their children. Data triangulation was also carried out using video recordings of learning activities and the results of interviews with class teachers. The results of the study showed that most parents were aware of the importance of literacy readiness in the transition period from early childhood education to primary school. However, they only emphasized the mastery of reading, writing and arithmetic skills as the main provision for children to join the primary school education. In fact, apart from that, social and emotional maturity are the main factors supporting the literacy readiness of early childhood. Therefore, children become easily bored and even reluctant if directed to calistung activities. In addition, parents acknowledged the need for synergy between schools and families in supporting children's literacy readiness. These findings provide important recommendations for early childhood educational institutions, especially TK 'Aisyiyah Bustanul Athfal 16, to develop a more comprehensive transition program. The program needs to actively involve parents in children's literacy learning to support their readiness to face higher levels of education.
