Abstract

This study examines bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and South Korea in the development of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology, with a focus on the Indonesia-Korea Energy Forum (IKEF) platform. This cooperation aims to reduce carbon emissions and achieve the Net Zero Emissions (NZE) target by 2060, as well as support a sustainable energy transition in both countries. Through a qualitative descriptive approach, and the concept of interdependence, this study explores the history of IKEF, its role in encouraging the implementation of CCS, as well as the challenges and opportunities that arise from this collaboration. The results of the study show that CCS is a key technology in climate change mitigation, with Indonesia as a developing country requiring technology transfer from South Korea. Discussions in the IKEF covered the development of a pilot CCS project in Indonesia, the necessary investments, as well as the potential for trans-boundary collaboration. Despite facing high challenges, including implementation costs and technology capacity, this collaboration is expected to accelerate the adoption of CCS technology in Indonesia and serve as a model for other developing countries. This research provides insight into how international institutions such as IKEF can facilitate technical and policy cooperation to address global issues such as climate change.
