Abstract

ollege students are included in early adulthood which is a move from adolescence
to early adulthood, so they are encouraged to pay attention and display their physique well in
front of others to look attractive, where this desire arises with the aim of increasing self-
confidence because of their developmental task of building relationships with others. Body
dissatisfaction can occur due to an individual's negative feelings and thoughts about their
appearance. One of the factors that can affect body dissatisfaction is the use of social media
because with the use of social media individuals can make comparisons through photos and
videos shared by others, because individuals consider the visual appearance seen to display
the ideal they want. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the intensity of
using Tiktok social media on body dissatisfaction in college students. This study uses a two-
variable correlational non-experimental quantitative design. The sampling technique used was
accidental sampling and obtained 279 students. The instruments used in this study were the
Social Media Use Scale and The Multidimensional Body Self Relation Questionnaire-
Appearance Scale. Data analysis using simple linear regression. The results showed that there
was no influence between the intensity of using Tiktok social media on body dissatisfaction with
a significant value (p = 0.110>0.05).
