Abstract

Scientific literacy is one of the abilities that every individual student must have and is also a prerequisite for 21st century life skills through integrated education, starting from family, school, to society. This research aims to determine scientific literacy abilities, to determine the relationship between gender and class level on scientific literacy abilities in students in grades X, XI, XII at MAN Batu City. The level of development of students' thinking capacity varies from one student to another. Gender have different levels of scientific literacy abilities, female students have a higher level of scientific literacy than male students in terms of indicators of understanding phenomena scientifically and evaluating facts and evidence. The research design used is quantitative research using descriptive methods (quantitative descriptive). The location of this research is at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Batu City, located at Jl. Pattimura No.25 Batu, Temas, Batu District, Batu City, East Java. Sampling used the Purposive Sampling technique, namely determining samples with certain characteristics, namely male and female. There are 20 male and female students at the class level. The average results of the scientific literacy abilities of students in classes X, XI, and XII are X=46%, XI=60%, and class From this data, if it is based on the criteria for classes X and The results obtained for the gender aspect show that there is no significant interaction with the results of students' scientific literacy abilities. Meanwhile, in the class aspect, there is a significant interaction shown in the results of students' scientific literacy abilities, which shows that there is a relationship between grade level and students' scientific literacy abilities.
