Abstract

Academic stress and problematic internet use have become increasingly important issues among adolescents, especially the increasing academic pressure and internet use. Individuals who experience academic stress will experience continuous pressure and anxiety which often causes the use of the internet as an escape mechanism and often leads to problematic internet use. This study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between academic stress and problematic internet use in adolescents. The method used is the quantitative method of the Pearson correlation test to test the relationship between variables. The scales used are the Perceptions of Academic Stress Scales 18 and the Problematic Internet Use Questionnaire (PIUQ) scale. The results of the study showed a
positive correlation between academic stress and problematic internet use in adolescents with a correlation of 0.268 and a significance of 0.003, which means that the higher the academic stress, the higher the problematic internet use in adolescents. For adolescents to
regulate internet use and have good stress management. For parents to supervise children in internet activities and support their children's academic activities. For schools, it is necessary to provide education related to the dangers of excessive internet use and stress
management.
