Abstract

The highest internet users in Indonesia are recorded among adolescents aged 13-18 years. Adolescents are an age group at risk of experiencing problematic internet use (PIU). The factors contributing to problematic internet use (PIU) generally occur in victims of bullying, such as an unfriendly environment and lack of support from their surroundings. This study aims to examine the relationship between Problematic Internet Use (PIU) and bullying among adolescents. The research employed a quantitative correlational approach. The sample consisted of 142 high school adolescents selected using an acidental sampling technique. The instruments used in this study were the Problematic Internet Use Questionnaire (PIUQ) and The Bullying and Cyberbullying Scale for Adolescents (BCS-A). Data were analyzed using the Spearman Rank Correlation Coefficient technique, yielding a p-value <0.01, indicating a relationship between bullying and problematic internet use (PIU). Based on the findings, it is concluded that there is a positive relationship between bullying and Problematic Internet Use (PIU) among adolescents. However, the relationship between bullying and Problematic Internet Use (PIU) found in this study is classified as weak. This is due to other factors not measured in this study, such as loneliness and parent-child communication.
