Abstract
Successful aging is the process of aging healthily and meaningfully, where individuals are able to maintain a good quality of life despite experiencing physical, mental, and social changes as they age. This study explores the role of living arrangement as a moderator in the relationship between social engagement and successful aging. The study uses a quantitative method, with data collected from 135 elderly individuals who live alone or with family, using accidental sampling techniques. The research instruments include the Social Engagement and Activities Questionnaire (SEAQ), Successful Aging Scale (SAS), and Living Arrangement Questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted using moderation regression with Process Hayes version 4.0. The results show that social engagement has a significant positive effect on successful aging, where the higher the social engagement, the better the quality of successful aging. This study emphasizes that successful aging is more influenced by the extent to which an individual is involved in meaningful social engagement, rather than the living arrangement factor. Strong social engagement can support the quality of life of the elderly, regardless of whether they live alone or with family, so both elderly individuals living alone and with family have equal opportunities to achieve successful aging through social engagement.
