Abstract
Social media has become a necessity for everyone. Social media is used to display daily activities and activities and express one's feelings at the same time. This causes negative changes in people's communication patterns. Direct communication no longer has a meaningful essence, but expresses itself through social media. This study aims to describe the social media addiction of students at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang. The design of
this study uses a non-experimental quantitative research design with a descriptive study type. The sample of this research is 100 students of Muhammadiyah University of Malang. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling. Measuring tool used is the social networking status scale. Data analysis using the T-score technique shows a picture of social media addiction in college students. The result of the research can be concluded that there is a picture of social media addiction in teenagers which tends to be high. This research proves that there is a social media addiction among 57 second students.
