Abstract
Background: Online gaming in Indonesia has grown rapidly in the last 10 years, with the majority of gamers using smartphones, PCs, laptops, and PlayStation. There are an estimated 10.7 million active online gamers, or about 10% of internet users. According to Nur Janah Yazid Asyarafi in Tribunnews, gaming more than 30 hours per week (4-5 hours per day) risks addiction. The purpose of this study was to determine whether or not there is a relationship between online game addiction and psychological well-being in students from Bima in Malang.
Methods: The type of research used is analytical observational research with a cross-sectional design using the Spearman correlation test regarding the relationship between online game addiction and psychological well-being in immigrant students from Bima in Malang City, which was carried out on August 16-September 27, 2024. This research was conducted in Malang City using a questionnaire with a population of 312 Bima students and a sample of 76 people.
Results: This study shows that there is a significant relationship between online game addiction and psychological well-being with a significance value of p = 0.025 (p < α = 0.05). The strength of the relationship of the variables in this study shows a weak strength with a coefficient correlation value (0.257) and a positive relationship direction, meaning that if online game addiction increases, psychological well-being also increases.
Conclusion: The results showed that the level of online game addiction and psychological well-being of students was mostly in the moderate category. The analysis shows that there is a significant influence between online game addiction and psychological well-being experienced by students.
