ABSTRACT
All learning interactions, starting from planning to evaluating the learning process are carried out by involving relationships between students and peers, students and teachers, and students and their environment. Thus, there is a need for innovative approaches that combine the application of mathematics in real-world situations with the integration of other disciplines, one of which is the contextual approach which has emerged as an attractive alternative in mathematics education. The purpose of this study is to evaluate contextualized mathematics learning that focuses on students' interest in learning and problem solving skills, as well as to see teachers' perceptions of the application of contextualized mathematics learning. This study involved a mathematics teacher and ninth grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah Waipare in Sikka District, East Nusa Tenggaea. The analysis technique used was thematic analysis. Thematic analysis was used to identify, analyze, and report patterns (themes) in the data. The results showed that contextualized mathematics learning can increase students' interest in learning and show an increase in problem solving skills. Mathematics teachers have a positive perception of learning mathematics with a contextual approach. Teachers assessed that there was an increase in interest in learning mathematics after the contextual approach was applied which resulted in students being able to solve problems well. Teachers need to have the ability to conduct creative learning and knowledge development. This research is considered to be used to build ideas for teacher professionalism development programs.
