Abstract
Background:CVA was a disorder of the brain's blood vessels. An abnormality in the form of a decrease in the quality of blood vessels in the brain.Stroke sufferers experienced dependence due to neurological deficits in their limbs and a reduced level of independence in moving their limbs. Orem's theory was applied, describing self-care as a personally necessary and goal-oriented behavior that focused on the individual's own capacity and the environment. This study aimed to determine the application of Orem theory to CVA patients with ROM exercises.
Method:This research was a case study. The research subject was 65 years old with a diagnosis of CVA infarction who complained of weakness in the right side of the body. The research was carried out in the Saiful Anwar Hospital room, East Java, from May 6 to May 10. The data collection method was based on Orem's theory.
Results:Mr. S did not show significant results on the first day, namely on a scale of 2, despite complaints of muscle weakness in the right extremities. However, on the second day and up to the 5th, results began to appear, with the patient's muscle strength increasing on a scale of 3. This was also influenced by the Orem theory approach, which included family support and education and optimal ROM exercise. However, there was also the possibility of a more stable patient condition. Because the average patient with CVA took a very long time to return to normal.
Conclusion:Applying Orem's theory to CVA patients by providing education and ROM exercises significantly increased muscle strength in CVA infarction patients.
