Abstract

This study aims to analyze the cultural values contained in three original Tuban legends, namely Sulalah Goa Ngerong, Air Terjun Ngelirip, and Putri Lanjar Maibit, and to explore the potential of these stories as Indonesian language teaching materials for Junior High School (SMP) students. The method used in this study is to use Barthes' semiotic approach to analyze the cultural values in original Tuban legends and utilize a number of library sources as supporting data. Data were obtained from a collection of legend story manuscripts originating from Tuban and related literature reviews. The results of the study indicate that Tuban legend stories contain various cultural values that reflect the local wisdom of the community, such as persistence and hard work, love and loyalty, mutual assistance, belief in the Creator, and respect for women.
